What are good action figures to get a 6yo?

I am adopting this mini boy who is 6 and me and my friend are going shopping for Christmas presents for him and he wants action figures so I was wondering what understanding of action figures little 6yo boys like and where to get em.
Action figures predominantly accompany cartoons; does he have any favorites?
If he doesn't then you could be unscrupulous and buy him the cheapest toys and then get him hooked on the cartoon show! He'll never know the quarrel.
